BACKGROUND

The Hope and Haven for Refugees Association operates the Chadian branch of the NGO - Saving Alginina Initiative. SAI is a bi-national initiative that formed after the events of the war in June 2023 to help a large number of families who were forced to flee from their homes to the Chadian border region of Adré because of the outbreak of violence. We want them to have a safe refuge and a dignified life. We help IDPs in refugee camps in Chad, as well as, in Sennar, Khartoum, Al-Jazeera, and North Darfur states in Sudan. SAI was founded by Sadeia Hamid and Mozamil Mohamed in July 2023.

NAME

We began our work as the Saving AlGeneina Initiative to honor the Al Geneina district of West Darfur state in Sudan. We are in the process of registering in Chad as Hope and Haven for Refugees Association and in Sudan as Safe Haven Organization.

NONPROFIT STATUS

The Hope and Haven for Refugees Association is a network of crisis rescue volunteers providing forcibly displaced families in Chad with charitable support. Our applications to register as charitable organizations in Sudan and Chad are currently under review. We are pursuing registration as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in the United States of America as well.

Latest Causes

Join Hope and Haven for Refugees Association by supporting our latest causes.

DIPLOMA CRASH COURSE - OCTOBER 2024

In October, 2024, our team with displaced teachers and professors provided a High School Diploma Crash Course, an accelerated learning opportunity for high school age students in Adré refugee camp in Chad. The High School Diploma Crash Course prepared students to successfully pass their diploma qualifications exams. The majority of displaced children had their schools destroyed over a year and a half ago. We are currently raising funds to provide stable education programs.

RAIN COVER PROJECT – JUNE 2024 to PRESENT

In June of 2024 we began work to provide stable shelters for 60,000 Sudanese refugees. As of August 2024 over 90% of the refugees in King Camp, Eastern Chad, face inadequate shelter as the autumn season brings increased rainfall and wind. This lack of proper shelter exposes them to the elements and increases the risk of waterborne diseases and respiratory infections. We aim to distribute high-quality tarpaulins lasting 6 months, medium-quality tarpaulins lasting 3 months, and basic tarpaulins lasting 1 month to a total of 24,926 beneficiaries.

MEDICAL CLINIC - OCTOBER 2023 to PRESENT

Since October 2023, with the support of several partners, we have helped displaced Sudanese health care workers provide life saving medical treatment to refugees living in the Adré refugee camp in Chad. While the clinic lacks essential resources, it is one of only three medical clinics in the Adré Camp, serving over 260,000 Sudanese refugees. Our medical clinic is the only one that provides free medical treatment and medicine. The other clinics require payment from forcibly displaced persons for any medical treatment and often struggle with language barriers. Because our clinic is run by people with the same language, history, and culture our team of volunteers is able to care for individuals with more accuracy, understanding, and compassion.

How To Help

Donate - Volunteer - Advocate

DONATE

To bring aid to as many of the over 10 million*(1, 2) displaced Sudanese refugees we ask that you contribute to one of our fundraising campaigns. Every donation matters in this time of crisis. Hope and Haven for Refugees Association has established relationships with refugees and officials in several camps in Chad - this is especially important in a time when many routes of aide are blocked. We have developed a trust with the communities of refugees as we provide all we can to help them.

VOLUNTEER

Please reach out to us at contact@hopeandhavenforrefugees.org to connect with our team. As a volunteer run organization we rely on each other to provide aid to displaced families across Chad and Sudan. Hope and Haven for Refugees Association is appreciative of help with any of the following skills or industries: Medicine, Medical Training, Medication and Vaccine Donations, Meal Preparation and Distribution, Education, Logistics, Accounting, Fundraising, and Social Media.

ADVOCATE

After war in Sudan became intensely violent in June 2023 Hope and Haven’s founders began to work to heal the trauma of those surviving violent clashes between warring factions in the country. Nearly half of Sudan’s population, over 25 million people, are at risk of violence and famine. International aide effort is needed and by using your voice to petition your local representatives for humanitarian support and encouragement of a peaceful resolution you can help make this happen.

How To Advocate

In the USA:

In Australia:

In Britain:

Tips:
  • Write/call/contact representatives on a regular basis. Daily is the most noticeable frequency.

  • The representative you are contacting will likely not read your message but one of their staffers/employees will. Then typically one of the staffers/employees will count how many messages there are per subject or issue. Often the decision of what to focus on for their constituents is based on the number of messages they have received per issue.

Advocate for Unfreezing Our Accounts:

To buy food, medicine, supplies, and education Hope and Haven's parent NGO Saving Alginina Initiative started several fundraising campaigns. Five fundraising accounts have been frozen by the platforms: PayPal, GoFundMe, US Treasury Department, Canadian and Australian governments. They have even gone so far as to freeze the personal bank accounts of some of the individuals that helped us request donations. As a small, volunteer run, charitable organization our priority is medical treatment and then providing meals. Fighting to receive the funds our supporters have generously donated is an administrative struggle that impedes our ability to help people in crisis. Please contact these platforms and organizations to petition these companies and your representatives to unfreeze our accounts and release our funds so we may continue our life saving work. ***UPDATE - October 8, 2024: THANK YOU to our supporters and advocates! Thanks to your advocacy GoFundMe released the hold on your donations. We may now use these funds to provide essential services to the displaced people of Sudan. The Saving Alginina Initiative still has several fundraising platforms and governments that have stopped us from receiving your donations - please continue to advocate that these funds be released. From our hearts to yours - Thank you for your help. We could not do our work without your support.***
